ABOUT

The Barkley Marathons is an extremely difficult ultra-distance event that takes place each year in Frozen Head State Park. Boasting approximately 100 miles of off-trail navigation and over 60,000 feet of elevation gain (over 120,000 feet of change), The Barkley Marathons is one of the most difficult events on Earth. Despite thousands of athletes attempting The Barkley Marathons, only 15 individuals have finished the event since its inception in 1986.

Gary Robbins

GARY ROBBINS - ultrarunner, coach

Gary Robbins is an ultrarunner who calls North Vancouver, BC home. Hailing from Newfoundland, Gary moved to Banff, AB in 1996 at 19 years of age in search of mountains and adventure, and fueled by a deep desire to learn how to ski. In 2004, at 27 years of age Gary relocated to Whistler, BC and decided to pursue adventure racing, and through this he discovered ultrarunning. Gary rapidly fell in love with endurance sports and after his team successfully completed the 2007, 800km long, XPD Australia Expedition Race, he sold his mountain bike, his kayak and dedicated himself solely to ultrarunning. In 2008 he put in his first ever 100 mile week of training and subsequently won his debut at the 100 mile distance that same year.

Beyond running and racing results Gary is most proud of having built a happy little family, a trail running series, and a coaching business, all from scratch, but with the perfect individual partner for each unique pursuit.
